how i read the results table in one of these trials (what am i missing?)

A lot of the confusion in this category comes from reading summaries instead of papers, so here's what I look at, in order.

1. The analysis population. Intention to treat vs completers changes the headline a lot. Look for how dropouts were handled. 2. The estimand. Modern trials state it. "Treatment policy" vs "trial product" answer different questions and give different numbers from the same data. 3. Baseline characteristics. Entry criteria decide who the result applies to. 4. The confidence interval, not the point estimate. 5. Discontinuation rates by arm. Tells you about tolerability in a way the adverse event table sometimes doesn't. 6. The supplementary tables, where the subgroup and sensitivity analyses live.

That's method not findings, applies to any human trial in this class. What am I missing?

The estimand point is the one most people have never heard of and it changes the number.
