Most of what a peptide vendor tells you is unverifiable by design. The useful exercise is separating the claims you can check from the ones you are simply being asked to believe.

Almost everything a research-peptide vendor tells you is unverifiable. There is no regulator auditing the claims, no required disclosure, and no penalty for a label that does not match the contents.

That is the honest starting position. The useful exercise is not finding a trustworthy vendor by intuition — it is separating the small set of claims you can actually check from the large set you are simply being asked to believe.

What can be verified

  1. A named third-party lab on the certificate. A laboratory you can look up independently is the single strongest signal, because it puts a name other than the seller's behind the numbers.

  2. A batch number matching your vial. A certificate is specific to one production lot. One generic PDF linked from a product page describes some batch, not necessarily yours.

  3. Raw traces, not a summary table. A real report includes the chromatogram and the mass spec trace. A table of figures is trivially easy to type.

  4. Price per milligram. Arithmetic you can do yourself, and the only price comparison that means anything across different vial sizes.

What cannot be verified

  • "99% purity" without a document. A number on a product page is a marketing claim.

  • Sterility. Not shown by a COA, which addresses identity and purity, not microbial contamination.

  • Manufacturing origin. Most research peptides are synthesised by a small number of facilities and resold under many brands.

  • Cold chain. Whether material stayed cold through shipping is not something a certificate speaks to.

  • Reviews. On unmoderated forums, indistinguishable from marketing.

Compare on price per milligram

Headline vial prices are not comparable, because vial sizes differ. The comparison that works is cost per milligram of actual compound.

Practical red flags

  • Therapeutic claims. A seller stating a compound treats a condition has stepped outside "research use only" and into drug marketing. See are peptides legal.

  • Dosing protocols on the product page. A research supplier providing a human dosing schedule is not behaving like a research supplier.

  • No batch numbers anywhere. Batch tracking is basic quality practice; its absence tells you what practices exist.

  • A certificate that will not open, or has no lab name. Treat an unverifiable COA as no COA, not as a weak one.

  • Prices far below everyone else. Synthesis costs what it costs. A large discount is a claim about something, and usually about content.

What to do with a new vial

  1. Check the batch number on the vial against the certificate before opening anything.

  2. Inspect the physical vial — intact flip cap, unpunctured stopper, legible label, visible lyophilised cake.

  3. Note that a cake which has collapsed or looks oily may have been through a temperature excursion.

  4. Record the batch alongside your inventory entry, so an anomaly can be traced to a lot rather than guessed at.

Frequently asked questions

Is an expensive vendor a safer vendor?

Price tracks branding and margin as much as quality. Verifiable documentation is the signal; price is not.

Do vendors make their own peptides?

Most resell material from a smaller number of synthesis facilities. Two brands at different prices may be selling the same lot.

Is a COA enough on its own?

It is one input about one batch from a lab whose independence you may not be able to establish. It addresses identity and purity, not sterility, and it says nothing about what happened in shipping.
