Cerebrolysin dosage in published studies and labels

These are the doses used for Cerebrolysin in FDA labelling and published clinical studies, reported as each source states them, one row per regimen. They describe what was studied or approved for a specific population. They are not a recommendation, and none of them is a dose for any individual.

Research and educational reference only. This is not medical advice, and no figure on this page is a dosing recommendation.

Studied regimens and sources

Cerebrolysin has no approved dosage in the United States. In the large stroke trials it was dosed by volume: 30 mL once daily by intravenous infusion for 10 days in the CASTA trial (n=1,070), and 30 mL once daily for 21 days alongside rehabilitation in the CARS trial. CASTA did not meet its primary endpoint; CARS reported better arm function at day 90.

Where sources disagree

  • Cerebrolysin is a mixture of low-molecular-weight peptides and amino acids prepared from pig brain, not a single peptide, so it is dosed in millilitres rather than milligrams.
  • This profile's general route lists intramuscular use, but the large stroke trials gave 30 mL by intravenous infusion. Trial volumes do not transfer to intramuscular injection.
  • Results are mixed: the largest trial, CASTA, missed its primary endpoint, while the smaller CARS trial reported a benefit and asked for confirmation in a large trial.
