Mechanism of Action

Humanin is encoded within the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene and acts both intracellularly, by interfering with Bax-mediated apoptosis, and extracellularly through a receptor complex involving CNTFR, WSX-1 and gp130. The S14G substitution increases cytoprotective potency in cell and rodent models by orders of magnitude relative to wild-type humanin, which is why it is the form most often used in research.

Storage & stability
