# Teduglutide

Teduglutide is an FDA-approved GLP-2 analog. Teduglutide differs from native GLP-2 by a single alanine-to-glycine substitution at position 2, which prevents cleavage by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 and extends its half-life substantially. Acting through the GLP-2 receptor on intestinal subepithelial myofibroblasts and enteric neurons, it promotes mucosal growth, increases villus height and crypt depth, and improves intestinal fluid and nutrient absorption.

Recombinant analog of glucagon-like peptide-2 approved for adults and children with short bowel syndrome who depend on parenteral support. It is the only approved peptide acting specifically on intestinal mucosal growth.

## Classification

- Type: FDA-approved GLP-2 analog
- Mechanism class: GLP-2 Agonist
- Development stage: Approved product
- Regulatory class: FDA-approved medicine

## Mechanism

Teduglutide differs from native GLP-2 by a single alanine-to-glycine substitution at position 2, which prevents cleavage by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 and extends its half-life substantially. Acting through the GLP-2 receptor on intestinal subepithelial myofibroblasts and enteric neurons, it promotes mucosal growth, increases villus height and crypt depth, and improves intestinal fluid and nutrient absorption.

## Properties

- Sequence: His-Gly-Asp-Gly-Ser-Phe-Ser-Asp-Glu-Met-Asn-Thr-Ile-Leu-Asp-Asn-Leu-Ala-Ala-Arg-Asp-Phe-Ile-Asn-Trp-Leu-Ile-Gln-Thr-Lys-Ile-Thr-Asp
- Length: 33
- Molecular formula: C164H252N44O55S
- Molecular weight: 3,752.1 g/mol
- Studied routes: Subcutaneous

## Evidence

- Evidence level: FDA Approved
- Highest documented: Regulatory review (FDA label)
- Human trials: 0
- Controlled human trials: 0
- Preclinical sources: 0

Each step shows whether the sources Peptide Library has reviewed include that kind of research. Counts are reviewed sources, not every study ever published. Reviews and programme summaries that describe human use are shown as "reported", not as trials, and registered trials without published results are listed but not counted. A higher step means research has progressed further; it does not mean a compound works better or is safer. Compounds whose evidence has not been reviewed yet show "Not reviewed" instead of a guess.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is Teduglutide?

Recombinant analog of glucagon-like peptide-2 approved for adults and children with short bowel syndrome who depend on parenteral support. It is the only approved peptide acting specifically on intestinal mucosal growth.

### How does Teduglutide work?

Teduglutide differs from native GLP-2 by a single alanine-to-glycine substitution at position 2, which prevents cleavage by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 and extends its half-life substantially. Acting through the GLP-2 receptor on intestinal subepithelial myofibroblasts and enteric neurons, it promotes mucosal growth, increases villus height and crypt depth, and improves intestinal fluid and nutrient absorption.

### Is Teduglutide FDA approved?

Yes. Teduglutide is approved by the FDA, and approved products are prescription medicines. Approval is always for specific indications studied in clinical trials, so an approved status does not mean the compound is approved for every use it is discussed for. Research-chemical material sold under the same name is not the approved product.

### What is the amino acid sequence of Teduglutide?

Teduglutide has the sequence His-Gly-Asp-Gly-Ser-Phe-Ser-Asp-Glu-Met-Asn-Thr-Ile-Leu-Asp-Asn-Leu-Ala-Ala-Arg-Asp-Phe-Ile-Asn-Trp-Leu-Ile-Gln-Thr-Lys-Ile-Thr-Asp, giving a chain of 33 amino acids. Its molecular formula is C164H252N44O55S.

### What peptides are similar to Teduglutide?

Compounds most often compared with Teduglutide include Linaclotide, Plecanatide, Larazotide and Secretin. They are grouped by shared mechanism or research area rather than by equivalence, and their regulatory status and evidence base differ.
